An international relations expert from a university in the East says President Trump will be keen to show that he can help bring stability and peace to the Middle East and Ukraine.

Ukraine and Russia remain locked in conflict- over two years after the Kremlin's attack - with Trump having previously said on the election campaign he could end the war “in a day”.

Meanwhile Israel continues to fight Hamas and its allies after the October 7th attacks, with the soon-to-be 47th President saying that his administration's “maximum pressure” policy on Iran benefitted the region.

"The most positive aspect that we can see..."

Dr Ra Mason is from the University of East Anglia: "I think what you're most likely to see in Ukraine is Trump claiming that he has struck a deal with President Putin of Russia and that the conflict is being 'frozen' for the time-being, perhaps with agreement that territory taken by the Kremlin will be re-negotiated in some form."

He doesn't expect Ukraine to be abandoned though: "What we have to remember is it's under the Trump administration, not the Biden administration, that Ukraine was armed to the teeth so it could engage in relatively competitive combat with Russia's armed forces."

He also expects Trump will want to show he can help bring stability to the Middle East, like in his last term: "The most positive aspect that we can see in the Middle East is that it was the Trump administration that struck the 'Abraham Accords' which was able to bring together warring factions in the regions, like Israel, Bahrain and United Arab Emirates."

Donald Trump will officially be back in the White House from January the 20th.
