UEA gym remains closed following death of man

Police tell us an investigation into the death of a man at the University of East Anglia (UEA) is continuing today, in partnership with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Emergency services were called to the Sportspark gym shortly after 7pm following reports of a medical incident involving a man who had been using gym equipment.

The man, in his 20s, was treated by paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say his family have been informed.

The gym was evacuated while emergency services treated the man.

In a statement on social media, the UEA Students' Union said they are deeply shocked by last night's incident:

It remains closed today, with a police cordon in place, to allow officers to carry out enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding his death, which is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.
