A charity in Norfolk who supports victims of domestic violence say they're expecting to see a rise in demand, this January- as more people look to break-free from abusive relationships.

Official data shows that 2.3 million people in England and Wales, were victims of this abuse- in the year ending March 2024- this being an increase of 200 thousand, on the same period in 2023.

"It means that perpetrators aren't facing justice on too many occasions"

Rhys Lloyd is from Leeway:

He told us what needs to be done to ensure more people- can get justice:

"Court wait-times need to be reduced. It's something that puts people off going through the legal process, because many are having to wait a year or more to have their case heard.

"It means that perpetrators aren't facing justice on too many occasions".

"We also need to providing support in accessible locations like community centres or village halls, where we have that presence in the local area and people can easily come to us for support".

"I think work like that is really key to breaking down major barriers that are preventing people from coming forwards".
