The co-leader of the Green Party and MP for Waveney Valley is urging the Government to set out a clear process of how it's going to achieve the goals they set out at COP-29.

The 29th United Nations Climate Change conference is taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan this month.

During this, the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced the UK will pledge to cut emissions by 81% compared with 1990 levels, with plans to achieve this through decarbonising the power sector and expanding offshore wind.

It's also as investing in carbon capture and storage and nuclear energy.

We spoke to Adrian Ramsay, MP for Waveney Valley, who told us he welcomes the target the Government has set but wants it to reconsider what it's investing in to achieve this: "There are new nuclear power stations planned, including at Sizewell in Suffolk, which take up a huge amount of funds, and are always above budget and time scales in terms of their delivery.

"That money would have a far bigger impact, far more quickly, if invested in things like renewable energy and a proper nationwide project to insulate people's homes in a way that will bring down bills and keep people's homes warm."

He also told us that he's unsure about their choice to invest in carbon capture and storage.

"The Government's putting £22 billion into carbon capture and storage, which is an unproven technology... whereas the amount of investment that's there for genuine natural forms of carbon capture, like restoring our peatlands, and wetlands and woodlands, those are what's really needed for a better natural environment and to tackle the climate emergency."
