Yousef Makki: Date set for fresh inquest
The teenager died after being stabbed in 2019
A date has been set for a fresh inquest into the death of 17-year-old Yousef Makki in 2019.
The teenager was killed using a flick-knife whilst out with friends in Hale Barnes but a coroner previously failed to make a ruling of unlawful killing.
Earlier this year in January High Court judges quashed the original inquest findings, in which a coroner ruled out both unlawful killing and accidental death as reasons for Yousef's death in March 2019
Lady Justice Macur and Mr Justice Fordham handed down their ruling at the High Court in Manchester, quashing the conclusions of the first inquest and ordering a fresh inquest before a different coroner.
In a hearing today the new coroner Mr. Geraint Williams, appointed by the Chief Coroner of England and Wales set the date for a new inquest on the 23rd of October.
In the hearing that lasted around two hours, the court heard that the new inquest should hear again from the witnesses involved in the case including Joshua Molnar, aged 17, at the time, who claimed self-defence and was acquitted of murder and manslaughter after a trial, three months after Yousef's death.
The new inquest will also hear CCTV, forensic and medical evidence.
Coroner Mr Geraint Williams said "This is a single issue case - was Mr Molnar acting in self-defence" and said the scope of the inquest would include the events on the day leading up to Yousef's death.
