It happened at about 7pm on Thursday (30th March) when a 40-year-old woman was hit on the neck from behind as she tried to enter her flat on Renshaw Drive.

She was knocked unconscious and found by her friend some time later. Her keys were still in the lock and the door was slightly ajar. Her home had been ransacked.

She was taken to hospital but has since been discharged and now officers are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

Detective Inspector John Stainton of GMP’s Bury Borough, said: “We are piecing together each bit of information currently available to us but we need the public’s help to report if they saw anything suspicious around that time.

“We currently don’t know whether any items have been stolen as the woman is extremely shaken after this terrifying ordeal.

“We need to find out who is responsible for this alarming robbery so please, if you have information, get in touch with my team.”
