Woman fighting for her life in hospital after collision in Stockport

A woman is fighting for her life in hospital following a collision in Stockport.
Shortly after 8.40pm on Sunday 15th July, police were called to reports of a collision on Carrington Road in Stockport.
A blue VW polo had been travelling along Newbridge Lane from Bredbury before it collided with a blue Vauxhall Corsa at the junction of Carrington and New Zealand Roads.
The driver of the Corsa, a 61-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. She remains in a critical condition.
A 20-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs. He has been released under investigation.
Police Constable Phil Shaw, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A woman has been left fighting for her life following this collision and our thoughts remain with her and her family as she receives treatment in hospital.
“While we have arrested a man in connection with this incident, our investigation is in its early stages and we are appealing to any witnesses to come forward.
“If you saw either car prior to the collision or have any information or dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation, please get in touch.”
