A large cordon has been in place in Wigan this morning after a suspected grenade was donated within furniture to a local charity shop.

Officers were called out to the shop on Mesnes Street at around 10.40 this morning (1st May) to a report of the suspected explosive.

Specialist officers also attended as well as GMFRS while a cordon was put in place as a precaution.

Police said there are not believed to be any malicious intentions and it was later confirmed that the grenade is not a viable explosive device.
