Wembley awaits Warriors and Wolves
Wigan and Warrington brace for Challenge Cup final show-down
Last updated 8th Jun 2024
The countdown is on as Warrington Wolves face Wigan Warriors in the Challenge Cup final.
The game, hosted at Wembley Stadium, is one of the biggest in the Rugby League calendar with the game due to kick off at the delayed time of 15:07 in a tribute to the late Rob Burrow.
Wigan Warriors, who currently sit second in the league, will be hoping to claim their 21st Challenge Cup and second piece of silverware this season.
Meanwhile, The Wolves are looking to take their tenth Challenge Cup back to Warrington, and their first since 2019.
It's expected to be a close fought encounter with only one point separating the sides when they faced each other in the league last week.
The Warriors came out victorious in that encounter, winning 19-18 thanks to tries by Nsemba, Marshall, Leeming, and three conversions by Keighran.
Wigan head coach Matt Peet says: "The past counts for nothing.
"The players want to take this opportunity and Warrington will be exactly the same.
"Whether its the weekend just gone or the year just gone, its about kick off time on saturday".
Warrington head coach Sam Burgess says games like this are what you dream of as a kid: "I've been as a fan as a kid, as a player in 2013 as well with England so I'm looking forward to being a coach there and seeing how that feels.
"My work is kind of done by the time we get there it's more just trying to enjoy the moment and say what I need to say at the right time and hopefully the guys get a performance out there."
Along side the men's final The Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Final: Leeds Rhinos v St Helens will kick off at 11:45.
And at 5:45pm Sheffield Eagles v Wakefield Trinity will play in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final.
Following the passing of Super League legend Rob Burrow, the league has announced that supporters will be able to leave tributes at the Rugby League Statue outside Wembley Stadium from 9.45am on Saturday morning.
A minute’s silence will also be held before the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Final and the Men’s Final.
