Police have released CCTV footage after a man and woman were left with broken ankles after being robbed in Oldham.

Just after midnight on Monday the 4th of July, a 43-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man, were walking down Huddersfield Road when they were approached by a group of youths.

Both were forced to the ground and assaulted by the group - made up of boys and girls - before their phones and money was taken from them.

The youths then left.

The victims were taken to hospital for treatment, with x-rays revealing that they both sustained broken ankles, upper body and head injuries with the woman requiring surgery.

Police have now released CCTV footage of the attack and are appealing for the public’s help to identify the group.

Detective Inspector Mark McDowall, of GMP’s Oldham borough, said:

“This was a brutal attack on two unsuspecting members of the public who needed to be treated for some very serious injuries.

“Although it was late at night when the incident took place, we are hopeful that somebody may recognise the people in this footage or may have witnessed something.

“We would urge anybody that may have information that can help us identify the people responsible for this horrific attack to come forward.”
