Ian Brady is Britain's longest serving prisoner.

He was jailed for life fifty years ago but he's continued to torment the families of his victims ever since.

With the help of a woman called Myra Hindley, who be met at work, he snatched children off the streets of Manchester then tortured and murdered them and buried them on the Moors above Oldham.

One of his victims 12 year old Keith Bennett is still buried somewhere on those bleak, windswept moors. His family never give up hope that one day he might be found.

Brady has outlived many of the families of his victims and is now on hunger strike in Ashworth Hospital on Merseyside.

Our reporter John Pickford was one of the first reporters at the scene when the body of Pauline Reade was found during a renewed search of the Moors back in 1987.

These are his memories as he returned there this week.
