Hundreds of Bolton fans attended a service at the club’s Macron Stadium this afternoon to remember the 33 supporters who died at the Burnden Park disaster.

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the tragedy which occurred when Bolton played Stoke City in the FA Cup.

What was expected to be a crowd of around 50,000 swelled to over 80,000 as fans spilled out onto the pitch and others ended up being pushed into the rear car park.

One of the crowd barriers gave way leading to a crush which took the lives of the 33.

At today’s service the club chaplain Phil Mason led the tributes to those who perished, before their names were read out.
