United and Corrie stars to run for Kirsty Howard
A celebrity packed line-up has been assembled for the Great Manchester Run which is taking place in May.
Kirsty Howard was one of two people in the world born with her heart back-to-front, she was told at the age of four she’d have only six weeks to live. Instead, the brave and positive girl defied the odds and lived until October 2015, passing shortly after her 20th birthday.
The Kirsty Club are excited to announce that former Manchester United and England captain Bryan Robson will be representing Kirsty as an honorary starter of the Great Manchester Run once again. Speaking to Key 103, sporting legend said: “The Great Manchester Run will always be remembered for Kirsty”
“The race this year will not be the same without seeing Kirsty’s face in the race, she’ll be greatly missed.”
The former midfielder mentioned Kirsty’s admiration for Manchester United.
He added: “Kirsty was a big supporter of United, and just like any girl she loved David Beckahm”
Other celebrities who will be participating in the race and support include Corrie actors Samia Ghadie and Jack P Shepherd as well as singer Jake Quickenden.
The charity a long side The Great Run Company have come to the decision to retire the Number 1 after this years event. Kirsty first ran with this number on her shirt 13 years ago.
Phil Taylor, director of The Kirsty Club said: “It’s quite emotional this year because we’re used to having Kirsty with us”
“It’s the generous public and the generous people that always support us and so the Great Manchester Run for the foreseeable future will be one of our main events each year.”
