Twelve teenagers arrested after mass brawl in the city centre

Officers were called at rush hour on Tuesday evening

Twelve teenagers have been arrested following a disturbance in the city centre.

Officers were called shortly after 5.10pm on Tuesday 8 January 2019 to reports of a man being pursued by another group of men on Aytoun Street, Piccadilly.

Officers attended and a teenager was taken to hospital with a stab wound. His injuries are not serious and he has since been released from hospital.

Twelve teenagers have been arrested.

Eleven have been released under investigation and one remains in custody.

Enquiries are ongoing.

Inspector Jon Middleton, of GMP’s City of Manchester borough, said: “Thanks to the quick actions of our officers we have arrested twelve people in connection with this incident.

“I know it will be concerning to the public but I want to reassure people that we are increasing patrols in the area and we will be doing everything we can to find those responsible.

“Despite twelve arrests, this investigation is very much ongoing and I would ask anyone with information about what happened to get in touch with police as soon as you can.”
