Trains disrupted after derailment

Major disruption is expected on the trains in and out of Manchester today (Monday 28ths November 2016), after a derailment in Salford.

Major disruption is expected on the trains in and out of Manchester today (Monday 28ths November 2016), after a derailment in Salford.

An engineering train, which was carrying out maintenance, came off the tracks at the old Ordsall Lane Junction station near Eccles in the early hours.

A number of services have already been diverted, delayed or cancelled.

Network Rail has issued a statement, saying:

"Bus replacement services will be in place from the start of service today, with disruption expected throughout the morning.

"Our teams are working hard to keep disruption to a minimum, and we’d like to apologise to passengers for the inconvenience.

"Tickets are being accepted on Virgin Trains, East Midlands Trains and on Cross Country services and we would advise people to check their journeys before they travel this morning at www.nationalrail.co.uk.”
