More than £2,000 has been raised in less than two days in memory of a toddler who was knocked down and killed outside a hotel in Salford Quays.

17-month-old Jackson Yates died after the incident on the car park of the Ibis Hotel on Thursday night (10th August). He and his family were visiting Manchester from their home town in Yarm, North Yorkshire, to see a live performance of 'In the Night Garden'.

Tributes to the "beautiful little boy who was always smiling" have been left on the Go Fund Me page set up in his memory which was started by family friend Katie Metcalfe.

Police Sergeant Brian Orr of the GMP Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) said: “This was a heart-breaking incident involving a young boy which has understandably left his family distraught and the thoughts of everyone in the SCIU are with them at this terrible time.

“At the moment this appears to have been a truly tragic accident and not a suspicious incident; however we have launched an investigation to establish a full understanding of exactly what happened.

“I would ask that anybody who witnessed the collision to please contact police.”

Anybody with information should contact the SCIU on 0161 856 4741 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
