Three teenagers have been charged over the death of a man whose body was found in a canal.

Scott Anderton, 33, from Leigh, Wigan, was discovered in the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in his home town last Thursday.

A post-mortem examination showed he suffered multiple stab wounds and blunt trauma injuries.

Liam Bailey, 18, of Diamond Street, Leigh, and two boys aged 16 and 17, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Monday accused of Mr Anderton's murder.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Mr Anderton's family said he was "genuinely the most caring, loving, kindest person you could meet''.

They added: "He made time for anyone he met and would always be there if anyone needed help.

"Even on the darkest of days Scott was always positive and had the cheekiest smile which was infectious.''
