Teenager dies after being hit by car in Oldham

The 15-year-old boy was knocked down on Tuesday evening

A 15 year old boy has died after being knocked down by a car in Oldham.

Emergency services were called to reports of a serious road traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Rochdale Road at around 8.10pm on Tuesday (21st May).

A black Seat Ibiza travelling northbound along the road collided with a pedestrian – a 15-year-old boy. He sadly died in hospital yesterday (Thursday 23rd May).

His family are being supported by specially trained officers.

A 38-year-old man, who had been arrested on suspicion of serious Injury by careless driving, has since been released on bail.

Police Constable Thomas Johnson, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“This is a tragic incident which has seen a child sadly lose his life, and all of our thoughts are with his family at this awful time.

“Specially trained officers are supporting the family through every step of the process, and we will keep them updated as and when any information becomes available.

“While we have made an arrest, we are continuing to ask for information as we progress our investigation – if you have anything that you think could help, or witnessed anything, please do get in touch. This includes any relevant dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage.”
