Teen arrested after family threatened at gun point in Chorlton
Men wearing balaclavas surrounded a family’s car outside their home on Woodpecker Road.
A teenager has been arrested after a police chase through Longsight - in connection with a violent robbery in Chorlton.
Men wearing balaclavas surrounded a family’s car outside their home on Woodpecker Road at around midnight last night (10th May) before locking them inside and burgling their house.
The men threatened the family, including two young children, with a gun, stole their keys and locked them all in the car before burgling their house.
The men then dragged the family out of the car and attempted to steal it, but were unable to get the car started due to the keyless ignition system. The men then got into a black Renault Meganne and drove away.
Today, police have arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of robbery following a short police chase ending on Plymouth Grove in Lonsight. He remains in police custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Tony Lea from GMP’s City of Manchester Team said: “This was a terrifying robbery targeting a young family, purely because they have a nice car. Luckily there were no injuries, but we could have had a tragedy on our hands.
“We have made an arrest however our investigation is still in its early stages and we need to hear from anyone who saw anything unusual.
“We are appealing for anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously or may have seen the black Renault Meganne in the area before or after the burglary to get in touch.
“We would also like to hear from anyone in the area who may have CCTV cameras. Your footage could help our investigation.”
