Tameside college has been at the centre of a security scare after threats of a shooting were made on social media.
The building on Beaufort Road in Ashton-under-Lyne was placed on lockdown this morning after a post on twitter about a gun attack.
No one was allowed in or out of the building whilst police worked alongside bosses at the college.
In a statement Tameside College said:
At lunchtime today, Tameside College evacuated staff and students from all its sites.
All students and staff are safe and well.
This precaution was taken in collaboration with Greater Manchester Police. Tameside College will remain closed for the rest of the day. All evening classes have been cancelled.
Tameside College will be open as normal tomorrow morning.
Updates can be found on the college website and social media.
Greater Manchester Police are at the scene and are continuing to investigate.
The Twitter account which made the threat has since been closed down.
