'Stuff of nightmares': Woman wakes to meat cleaver being held at her throat
The intruders threatened the 55yo into handing over jewellery while she was still in bed.
A 55-year-old woman has been robbed in her own home after being threatened with a meat cleaver.
An investigation has been launched after police received a report that at around 10pm on Thursday 18 April two men broke into a house on Mapledon Road in Moston and stole money, a laptop, watches, mobile phones and a designer handbag.
The men also forced the victim, a 55-year-old woman to remove her jewellery and hand it to them while at knife point.
The woman ran to a friend’s house when the men had gone, terrified of what had just happened.
Police were informed that the men broke into the house and confronted the woman as she was asleep in her bed threatening to chop off her hand if she did not remove her rings.
Police are now searching for the two men, one of whom was described as Eastern European, possibly Romanian, between 20-25yrs, of slim build with a long face and around 5ft 6 in tall. He was wearing a light grey hooded top with the hood pulled up around his face.
Local residents have described seeing two men, also believed to be Eastern European, acting suspiciously in the area on a number of occasions recently, driving a red Audi A4. Police are keen to hear from anyone with any further information about these men.
'They need to be found before they put someone else through this ordeal'
Detective Inspector Gareth Levitt-Jones said: “This is the stuff of nightmares, to wake up with a meat cleaver at your throat and be threatened into handing over your jewellery all while still in bed is terrifying.
“I am so thankful that the woman came to no harm and has family around her for support.
“The two offenders obviously have no concerns about entering a person’s home and making threats in order to steal from them, they need to be found before they can put someone else through this horrifying ordeal.
“We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen two men acting suspiciously in the area on Thursday night, we are currently searching through CCTV and will have officers on patrol in the area while we conduct our investigation.”
