Storm Doris wreaks havoc across Greater Manchester
Roads closed as winds reach dangerous levels
Greater Manchester has been getting a battering off Storm Doris as roads across the region have been closed, some people have been left without electricity while one man in Stockport was literally blown off his feet.
The storm hit the region early this morning causing traffic chaos in some areas as fallen trees meant that several roads had to be closed, while the strength of the winds also caused other disruptions with the entire Thelwall Viaduct being shut down completely.
Certain flights from Manchester Airport were delayed while Chester Zoo had to close for the day – filming on Coronation Street was also shut down due to the windy weather.
Flying debris has been causing a problem for many with the Ambulance Service being called out to attend incidents of people being injured.
The advice from The Highways Agency is not to drive unless it’s completely necessary they’ve said they expect many roads that were closed to reopen this afternoon and have advised motorists to wait until then where possible.
