A second sinkhole has opened up in Manchester City Centre, just meters from the 40ft crater on Mancunian Way.

It’s smaller though, measuring 10ft deep and about 5ft across, and was first spotted at around 10 this morning by workers at a nearby business.

The new hole is on Paddock Street which is now partially closed -

A spokesperson from United Utilities said:

"Our engineers are working to make the hole safe, given that we already have the expertise and equipment in the immediate area.”

"Together with Manchester City Council, we are investigating the cause, but there is nothing to suggest that the hole is related to the one on the Mancunian Way."
