Protests across Greater Manchester over rail fare increases
Commuters angry that they're having to pay more.
Campaigners have been protesting at train stations across Greater Manchester today in response to an increase in ticket prices, as commuters return to work after the festive break.
The average increase of 2.3% came into effect on Monday morning and demonstrations, arranged by campaign group Action for Rail, are taking place throughout the day. One of those demonstrations was held at Greenfield station, in Oldham, and attended by Debbie Abrahams MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth, and Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions.
The MP said Northern Rail services are “totally inadequate” with commuters having to put up with “appalling conditions” on a regular basis.
