Pregnant women in Greater Manchester are being told it is safe to get the coronavirus vaccine.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has confirmed it is safe for pregnant women and women breastfeeding to have their Covid-19 vaccine.

They're now being offered the Pfizer or Moderna jabs despite initially being told they wouldn't be able to.

Dr Theresa Kelly is a consultant at St Mary's in Manchester. She told us the risk of catching the virus is far worse than getting the vaccine.

She says, "When the mum's sick, the baby gets sick and it might not be the stage where you want to deliver them.

"It's a tricky balance.

"I don't need any more practice looking after women with Covid. I'm really pleased when people get the vaccine because I know it's the right thing to do".
