Police are investigating after a man was shot in the arm in Eccles.

Shortly before 9:20pm on Sunday 20 March 2016, police were called to reports that a man had been shot after answering the door of an address on Marlborough Road, Eccles.

Officers attended and found a 21-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his arm and damage to the front door of the property consistent with that of a shotgun discharge.

The man was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries which are described as serious but not believed to be life threatening.

Police are now investigating the incident which is believed to have taken place sometime between 9pm and 9:30pm.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody for questioning.

Chief Superintendent Mary Doyle of Divisional Commander of GMP’s Salford Division said: “Anytime a firearm is discharged at another person it will understandably cause concern but I want to stress that we do not believe there to be any wider threat to the public as a result what we believe to be a targeted attack.

“We have increased patrols in the area to offer reassurance to the community so people may notice an increased police presence for the foreseeable future. “The investigation is at an early stage and we are following a number of lines of enquiry however if you believe that you may be able to assist us then please get in touch.

“Often when an incident like this happens, important information will lie within the community and I would ask that anybody who believes they may have information to contact police immediately.”
