Police say they believe a burnt out white Ford Transit van, found on Tuesday evening, could be linked to a shooting in Salford which happened just minutes before.

Officers were called to a house of Duchy Road to reports a man had been shot.

The same street was in lockdown just hours earlier after reports of a suspicious device being found.

A 27-year-old man took himself to hospital with three gunshot wounds to his legs. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Packer, of GMP’s Salford district, said: “I know that people in the area may be concerned or worried about what has happened, but please be assured that are doing everything we can to find those responsible.

“We are still working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack, but there is not believed to be any threat to the wider community.

“You may notice an increased police presence in the area as officers continue with their enquiries in the next few days.

“If you saw anything suspicious, or if you know anything about what happened, please get in touch with us as a matter of urgency."
