A group of teenagers have been arrested after a spate of robberies in the city centre over the weekend.

Officers received more than 30 reports of incidents between Thursday and Sunday.

In a number of the incidents, it was reported the victims were threatened by a group of youths.

Four teenage boys - aged 14 and 15 - have all been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Chief Inspector, Cherie Buttle for GMP’s City of Manchester Division said: “Police in the city centre have been dealing with a spike in robberies this weekend.

“Officers from Operation Valiant - which targets personal robberies - are investigating these offences, including studying CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses.

“While we have made arrests, we remain vigilant and would urge anyone who has been the victim of robbery, or has any information that can assist our enquiries, to contact police immediately.

“We have stepped up patrols and officers will continue to be out across the city day and night. If you have any concerns please approach them.

“We will never tolerate innocent members of the public being targeted and threatened like this, and we are working tirelessly to identify the offenders.”
