Police are appealing for information after a taxi driver was attacked in Middleton.
Shortly after 1.15am on Sunday 12 June, police were called to Manchester Old Road to reports that a taxi driver had been assaulted.
The 38-year-old victim was approached by a man but refused to take the fare. The man then smashed the front driver’s side window sending shards of broken glass into his right eye causing serious injuries.
The man is believed to have fled the scene in another taxi.
He is described as mixed race, aged between 18 and 22, between 5ft8in and 6ft tall with short curly black afro hair, wearing dark jeans and a grey hooded top.
The victim is currently in hospital having undergone surgery and could lose the sight in his right eye.
Detective Constable Daniel Daly, of GMP’s Rochdale borough, said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a man simply trying to earn an honest living and he may lose the sight in his eye permanently.
“We are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time and may have seen anything that will help us with our investigation to come forward.”
