GMP appeal for witnesses.
A man's been arrested after a man was viciously attacked in Wigan town centre.
Between 2am and 2.30am on Saturday 30th July 2016, the 28-year-old victim was walking to the taxi rank on Wallgate after a night out in Wigan town centre, when he was approached from behind by a group of men. He was hit on the back of the head and fell unconscious, and the group fled.
The victim was taken to hospital where he is underwent treatment for serious head and facial injuries and is now at home.
A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, and violent disorder and has been bailed until 11 November 2016.
Detective Sergeant Steve Baldam of GMP’s Wigan division said: “This was a totally unprovoked and cowardly attack on a man who had been enjoying a night out and was on his way home.
“He was viciously assaulted and has been left with a serious head injury in hospital.
“I am still appealing for the men in the photograph to come forward, and anyone who recognises them to contact police immediately.”
