The brother of Bury-born comedian Victoria Wood has launched a fundraising campaign to pay for a statue in her memory.

75 year old Chris Foote Wood has set up a Crowdfunding page with the aim of raising ÂŁ20,000.

He's already received support for the idea from Bury council and is looking at ideas for a bronze statue.

Writing on his JustGiving webpage entitled 'Lets Do it' - Victoria Wood Memorial Appeal he said, "My idea is to have a life-like statue of Victoria, either seated at the piano ("Let's Do It!") or as Kimberley's friend in mac and beret ("Ave you seen 'er?" sketch).

Journalist and writer Mr Foote Wood said the statue would be a tribute to a hugely talented writer and performer.

He said "This would also be a magnet for you Victoria Wood fans to visit and have your selfies taken."

Bafta award-winning Mrs Victoria Wood died of cancer at the age of 62 on the 20th April, 2016.

Although she was born in Prestwich, the family home was in Bury where she lived until leaving for University at the age of 18.
