Pair jailed following city centre death
Prison sentences handed out to pair after man was killed in city cente.
Two men have been jailed following the death of a man in Manchester city centre.
Earl Atta Rooms of Roberts Avenue, Rusholme, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and violent disorder at an earlier hearing. Today he was sentenced to seven years in prison for manslaughter, with three years to run concurrently for violent disorder. Dwayne Henry of Carlton Avenue, Rusholme, was found guilty of violent disorder after a trial at Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square. Today, Friday 4th December he was sentenced to three years in prison. In the early hours of Sunday 4th January 2015 Clarence Edwards was inside R Base nightclub on Makin Street in Manchester city centre when he got into a dispute with Rooms and Henry, which spilled out onto the street and a fight between them broke out. During the fight Clarence was stabbed in his chest and died a short time later in hospital. Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Ian Crewe said: “This is another sad case where a night out ended in tragedy. Violence destroys lives and there is no place for it on our streets. "Clarence’s family have spent the last ten months trying to come to terms with what happened on that dreadful night. I hope now that they can start to look forward to the future."
