Package Causes Train Delays
Services were disrupted over the the Friday morning rush hour on the West Coast main line and on routes in and out of Manchester following an overnight security incident which prevented trains from leaving a depot.
Police were alerted to a suspicious package on board a train at the Longsight depot in Manchester in the early hours and a cordon was put in place while investigations took place.
Martin Frobisher, route managing director for Network Rail said: “Railway staff reacted quickly to this unfortunate situation but the safety of passengers, residents near the depot and staff is everyone’s priority."
Shortly before 2:30am on Friday 21 August 2015, police were called to Westcoast Train Care on Kirkmanshulme Lane, Longsight after a suspicious bag was found on a train.
Officers attended and an investigation has been launched with support from the fire service and British Transport Police (BTP).
Assessments of the bag were carried out and the scene has now been handed over to BTP.
Enquiries are on-going however there is not believed to be any threat to the public.
