Police were called to reports of a man who had fallen ill at a property on Heysham Avenue on Saturday evening.

A 28-year-old man was taken to hospital but sadly died.

Officers now say they believe the man may have been assaulted earlier that day and a working to establish exactly where this happened.

Detective Inspector Wes Knights, from GMP's Major Incidet Team, said: "The investigation is in its very early stages but from enquiries so far we believe this man was subjected to a brutal attack at some point on Saturday.

"The family is understandably beside themselves and we are doing everything we can to find out exactly what happened to him and those who are responsible for his death.
