Mancunians everywhere are expected to be feeling the blues as the 'most depressing day' grips the nation.

Manchester topped the list of the places which suffer worst from the New Year blues.

The third Monday of the year; January 18th has been dubbed Blue Monday, following reports that it is the date on which the population is at its most melancholy.

New research found by the Co-op states that at this time of the year, 26% of people claim it is the month they feel the most isolated and people in Manchester are at their loneliest.

It has previously been suggested it is the time of year when the weather is worst, debt levels highest and the post-Christmas misery is still looming.

But these aren't the only reasons; on top of the gloomy skies and the loneliness two thirds of people also feel depressed on their way to work.
