Manchester sinkhole update
Work on Mancunian Way sinkhole set to go on till Spring.
The Mancunian Way sinkhole may take several months to repair according to the latest update. United Utilities have issued a statement noting:
We're working with Manchester City Council to get ready to start tunnelling a new sewer; we are constructing two 14-metre deep shafts before this work can begin.
The work is difficult due to ground conditions. So far we have been stabilising the original collapse, setting up a sewer bypass system and planning a major engineering scheme Survey work is ongoing to see if we can open both lanes to HGVs and coaches to remove them from the City centre Once tunnelling begins under the Mancunian Way it really all depends what we find – but it could be open by Spring next year.
