A&E Units across Greater Manchester are to be monitored 24/7 in a bid to stop ambulances queuing up outside hospitals this winter.

The urgent and emergency care hub's been set up to help predict demand so that it can be dealt with before it spirals out of control.

The hub, which launched two weeks ago is the first of its kind in the UK.

Sir Bruce Keogh, The National Medical Director of the NHS in England visited Manchester today as part of his 'farewell tour' of the UK before he retires.

He told Key: The care hub Is a fantastic idea, two things that really strike me, one is that it tries to coordinate the activity of all the accident and emergency departments but importantly it intends to use all sort of other data to prevent problems from occurring before they happen."

Sir Bruce also visited The Christie Hospital today and praised the hospital and it's staff for their efforts in leading the way in the fight against cancer.
