Drivers across Manchester are being told to prepare for disruption as the city gears up for its famed Half Marathon.

The race, taking place on Sunday (October 13th) will span across much of the city centre before heading south west, with areas such as Chorlton, Sale, Stretford and the Deansgate area of the city centre being affected.

In total, some 25,000 runners are expected to take to the streets, with each racer having their own reasons for taking on the challenge.

Among those who will be running the 21-kilometre run is robotics cancer surgeon Dr Aziz Gullemhussein.

Raising money for the Christie hospital, he said that he will be just one of thousands sharing in the fun of the race.

"The start race is always a fun place to be," Dr Aziz said. "I love the energy you get from everyone grouped together with a similar goal. It's very exciting but it's very nervous."

He added that he was thrilled to be raising money for the charity, who will get to help more people.

"It benefits the charity, both in terms of patients - as well as their families, from cutting edge technology to education to complementary care to helping fund research with an aim to find cancers early and treat them in a more targeted way."
