Man and woman questioned over toddler's death in Wythenshawe
A 22-month-old girl died from "unexplained injuries".
A woman and a man have been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a toddler in South Manchester.
The 22-month-old girl was rushed to hospital by ambulance on Sunday from Somerton Avenue in Wythenshawe, following reports she was having a medical episode.
Sadly, medics were unable to save her life and she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
A post mortem has revealed the child had unexplained injuries and detectives from Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation.
On Wednesday evening GMP said a 34-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Both are in custody for questioning.
Detective Chief Inspector Colin Larkin, from GMP's Major Incident Team, said: Investigations into all deaths are upsetting but when a young child is involved it is truly heart-breaking.
"We currently have specially trained officers supporting this little girl's loved ones at this difficult time and our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this distressing incident.
"We also have a dedicated team of detectives working to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
"If you know something or believe you might have some information about this death, then please contact us immediately.''
