Man's wheelchair horror at train station

A disabled man is demanding answers after he was sent flying down a ramp as he was helped off a train in Manchester.

An investigation's underway after a disabled man was sent flying down a ramp at Manchester's Piccadilly Station as a guard tried to help him off a train.

Joseph Ryan from Crumpsall suffered bruising in the incident on Bank Holiday Monday as he was helped off the East Midland's train from Warrington.

The Rail company's now investigating.

Joseph told KEY103 he was left 'bruised' and 'in pain' after his chair rolled down the ramp in front of a packed platform before colliding with a row of metal seats.

His chair was also damaged but has since been replaced.

The 47-year-old, who suffers from arthritis and a bone tissue disorder, is in a chair after suffereing a fractured hip in a fall earlier this month.

Bosses at East Midlands Trains said a full investigation has been launched.

A statement reads:

''We are investigating this and have been in touch with Mr Ryan.

An East Midlands Trains spokesperson said: "We were sorry to hear about the problems Mr Ryan had at Manchester Piccadilly station over the weekend.

"The safety of our customers is always our absolute priority. We have spoken directly to Mr Ryan and assured him that a full and thorough investigation is already underway to understand precisely what happened.

"We will update Mr Ryan as soon as the investigation has concluded."
