Man shot in Moss Side
Two arrested
Detectives have launched an investigation after a man was shot in Moss Side.
Police were called shortly before 2.50pm on Sunday 19 February 2017, to a report that a man had been shot outside the Silver Spoon on Great Western Street.
Armed response officers attended and discovered that a man had been shot in the thigh and had been taken to hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.
An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing.
Two men, aged 20 and 45, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in police custody for questioning.
Chief Inspector Mark Kenny of GMP's City of Manchester Team said: “When something like this happens it can cause worry and unrest in the community. I want to offer my assurances that we have extra patrols in the area and a dedicated team of detectives working on this case.
“Our enquiries are at an early stage but we do believe this was a targeted attack, and that there is no wider risk to people living in the area.
“We know that Moss Side is a very tight knit community so it is possible that somebody may hold key information about those responsible.
“If you do know who is responsible, or have any information about what happened to this man, who is seriously injured in hospital, please come and talk to us.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 1352 19/02/17 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
