Man left with injuries to his face after unprovoked attack in Wigan
Police are hunting two youths who left a 28-year-old man with multiple facial fractures after an unprovoked assault in Wigan.
The attack took place at around 6.40pm on Monday the 2nd of November 2015, when the 28-year-old victim was walking along Dorning Street in Wigan, on his way home from work.
He saw a group of youths walking towards him along the pavement and crossed the road to avoid them.
But after they had passed by him on the other side of the road, two of the group broke off from the others and doubled back in order to attack him.
They punched him to the side of the head, causing him to fall to the ground, before kicking him while he lay helpless on the pavement.
The pair then ran off along King Street West.
The victim suffered multiple facial fractures and extensive bruising as a result of the attack.
The first offender is described as white, between 15 and 16 years old and had mousey brown hair. He was wearing a blue tracksuit.
The second offender was described as white, tall, between 15 and 16 years old and was wearing a red jacket.
Detective Constable Matthew Higham said:
“**This was an unprovoked and cowardly attack committed against a man who was simply making his way home after a day’s work.
“**As a result of this pair’s reprehensible actions, the victim required surgery to his face and had a metal plate fitted to his cheek bone.
“I am asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time to contact police to tell us what they saw, even if that may be something insubstantial.”
