Man left fighting for his life after thieves knock him down with his own car

Police are hunting those responsible.

A man is fighting for his life after thieves stole his car before knocking him down in Ashton-under-Lyne.

Shortly after 7.20am today (Friday 15 February 2019), police were called to reports of a collision on Nook Lane.

A 63-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

The victim saw his car – a red Citroen C1, registration number MV18 OSB – being driven away on Rushmere. He tried to run after his car before it struck him on Nook Lane.

The thieves didn't stop - instead fleeing the scene.

Police have located what they believe to be the stolen red Citroen C1 involved in the incident on Parry Walk, off Diamond Street in Ashton-under-Lyne.

A police cordon is in place and Nook Lane is currently closed at the junction with Hampson Place. St Christopher’s Road is also closed whilst investigative work is carried out.

Specialist officers, including forensic teams, are at the scene and are conducting an area search to locate the offenders.

Detective Inspector Ian Harratt, of GMP’s Tameside district, said: “A man is now fighting for his life as a result of this incident and we have deployed several resources to the area who are working to locate those involved.

I would also urge any witnesses or anyone with information or dash-cam footage to get in touch as soon as possible so that we can find those responsible for this horrific incident.”
