A man has been charged in connection with the shooting of a seven-year-old boy and his mum in Salford.

Carne Thomasson, 28, has been charged with two counts of conspiracy to murder following the shooting of Christian Hickey and his mother Jayne on the doorstep of their home in Eccles in October 2015.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said Thomasson, of no fixed address, was due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

On Wednesday June 27, the Spanish National Police, working with the National Crime Agency, arrested a man on behalf of Greater Manchester Police after a European Arrest Warrant was granted.

Christian was hit once and Mrs Hickey, then aged 30, twice in the leg in the attack in Gillingham Road, Salford.

Both were taken to hospital and had to undergo surgery before being discharged.

Six other men have already been charged in connection with the attack and are due to enter pleas next month.

Christopher Hall, 48, of HMP Manchester, Aldaire Warmington, 31, of HMP Hollesley Bay, and John Thomasson, 49, of Wakefield Crescent, Stockport, were charged with conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Dominic Walton, 26, of HMP Long Lartin, James Coward, 22, of HMP Risley, and Lincoln Warmington, 31, of Summerville Road, Salford, were charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice
