Man Dies After Manchester Police Chase

A man's died and two women injured after a chase involving a police car

A man's died after a collision in Old Trafford that followed a chase involving a police patrol car. Just before 3.30 this morning (Sunday 21st February) a Mercedes S320 sped away from officers and they gave chase. Shortly afterwards the car hit a Mini at the traffic lights at the junction Chester Road and Warwick Road South. The 24 year old driver of the Mercedes was pronounced dead at the scene with the two women from the Mini taken to hospital.

Greater Manchester Police’s Professional Standards Branch is investigating the crash, which has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission. Superintendent Jen Williams from Greater Manchester Police’s Professional Standards Branch said, "In the early hours of this morning, following a short police pursuit, a man has sadly died after his car collided with another vehicle.

“We are in the process of informing the man’s family, to whom we will be providing support from specially trained officers."
