Man dies after car hits tree in Rochdale
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward
A man has died after a car collided with a tree in Rochdale. Sometime before 10.50pm on Monday 12 December 2016 a red Seat Ibiza carrying three men was driving along Bolton Road. The car was heading in the direction of Edinburgh Way when it crossed onto the opposite side of the road and collided with a tree. A 25-year-old man, who was a front seat passenger, was taken to hospital where he sadly died earlier today (Tuesday 13 December 2016). The driver of the car, a 22-year-old man, sustained minor bruising which did not require hospital treatment. A 23-year-old man travelling in the back was uninjured. The road was closed off for a number of hours but has since reopened. Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. Sergeant Paul Higgins, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost I would like to extend my most sincere condolences to this man’s family at this upsetting time. “This is a tragic incident which has resulted in a man losing his life and we have launched a full investigation into the circumstances leading up to his death. “I would strongly urge anyone who thinks they may be able to assist us to please come forward and speak to police.” Anybody with information should contact the GMP Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.
