A man has died and a teenager is fighting for his life following a serious collision in Crumpsall.
Several other people are being treated in hospital, including a 3-year-old child.
Shortly before 6pm on Wednesday (5th June), police were called to reports of a collision between a silver Vauxhall Zafira and a black Volkswagen Golf on Crescent Road.
The Vauxhall was turning around on Crescent Road when it was involved in a collision with the Volkswagen.
A 42-year-old man – who was a passenger in the Vauxhall – was taken to hospital where he sadly died a short time later from his injuries.
There were six other people travelling in the Vauxhall – including the driver – who were all taken to hospital for treatment.
A 13-year-old boy remains in a critical condition and a 42-year-old woman is being treated for serious injuries.
The driver of the Volkswagen left the scene with a 3-year-old child before police arrived at the scene. The child was also taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries.
A 25-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in custody for questioning.
An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing.
Police Constable Suzanne Keenan, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Tragically, a man has lost his life and a teenage boy remains in a critical condition in hospital. A woman and a child are also being treated for serious injuries and our thoughts remain with everyone involved whilst specialist officers support their families.
“Several other people also remain in hospital for treatment and while we have arrested a man, our enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding this collision remain ongoing.
“We know a man driving a silver Renault Modus transported a couple of people to hospital and we’d appeal directly to him to get in touch with us. I want to stress that he’s not in any trouble but we believe he may hold vital information that could steer our investigation.
“If you saw any of the cars in the area beforehand, witnessed the collision or have dash-cam or CCTV footage, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
