Man dies after car crashes into tree on Princess Parkway

Police were called to the junction with Palatine Road shortly before 12:30am on Monday (3rd September)

A man has died after the car he was driving collided with a tree near the city centre.

At around 12.25am this morning (Monday 3rd September), a grey Lexus IS 220 was heading away from the city on Princess Parkway when it left the road.

The car collided with a tree near to the junction with Palatine Road.

The driver, who is believed to be in his 20s but has not yet been formally identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three passengers - all men - were taken to hospital with serious and minor injuries.

The A5103 was closed for around six hours while collision investigators assessed the scene and carried out enquiries.

PC Paul Shore, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This morning a man sadly lost his life as a result of this collision and we want to understand exactly what happened.

“Thankfully no one else is in a life-threatening condition and we are speaking to the passengers in the car to get their accounts of what happened.

“However, I would still appeal to the public for any information and particularly if you have dash-cam of the incident itself or beforehand.”
