Man dies after being hit by a coach in Blackley

A man has died following a collision in the early hours of the morning.

Shortly before 12.05am this morning (Thursday 7 February 2019), a collision on Rochdale Road in Blackley was reported over the airwaves by a passing police patrol.

The collision, which involved a coach and a pedestrian, caused the road to be closed for a number of hours but it is now fully reopened.

The pedestrian was given CPR at the scene but despite best efforts, he sadly died.

A 63-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving offences. He remains in custody for questioning.

Those who witnessed the collision or have dashcam footage are encouraged to come forward.

Police Constable Martin Davies of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “In just a matter of moments, a man has sadly lost his life while crossing the road.

“We will be supporting his family through this very sad time and doing everything we can to find out exactly what happened.

“I appreciate this happened just after midnight but if anyone did witness anything prior to or after the collision that may help our investigation, please get in touch with us.”
