Man arrested on suspicion of murder after death in Withington

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died following an assault in Withington.
Shortly before 8.40pm on Saturday 16 June 2018 police were called by the ambulance service to reports that a man had fallen ill at a property on Heysham Avenue in Withington.
A 28-year-old man was taken to hospital but sadly died.
The man has since been formally identified as Noel Michael White (25/11/1989).
Officers are investigating the possibility that Noel was assaulted on a car park just off Wilmslow Road in the early hours of the 16 June 2018.
A 37-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of his murder.
He is currently in custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Wes Knights, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “We have now arrested a man on suspicion of the murder of Noel.
“Our enquiries are continuing and we are still doing all that we can to establish the exact circumstances of his death.
“There are still many unanswered questions in this investigation and we won’t stop until we answer all of them. Our thoughts are very much with Noels family at this difficult time.
“I would urge anyone who may have seen Noel earlier that day, or may know his whereabouts in the lead-up to his death to get in touch with police as soon as possible.
“If anybody witnessed an incident which they believe is linked, I would ask them to make contact”
“We continue to have a police presence on Heysham Avenue and a scene remains in place. Anyone with any information or questions is encouraged to come and speak to police.
